GBCCA students in the radio club (KR5ISD) are competing in the School Club Roundup this week.
The Roundup is a biannual, five-day amateur radio operating competition designed to encourage on-air activity for K-12 school clubs, colleges, and university stations. The students compete with other schools nationwide to see how many contacts they can get.
The Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy Mock Trial Team Competed
This past Saturday the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy Mock Trial Team competed in the 47th Annual Texas High School Mock Trial Competition. They won the first rounds and have advanced to the Final Rounds Competition on February 14th!! These students had to put in countless hours practicing and scrimmaging other area high school mock trial teams. A special thank you goes out to Rockwall District Attorney Kenda Culpepper and her team for helping make this possible. Wish these students luck for the coming Final Round Competition!!!

Our real estate students are learning Return on Investment (ROI) the hands-on way—by purchasing, building, upgrading, and selling gingerbread houses!
From budgeting materials and planning upgrades to analyzing costs vs. resale value, students are discovering how smart improvements can boost returns (and how over-spending can shrink profits). It’s real estate fundamentals with a festive twist—because learning sticks when it’s creative, collaborative, and a little bit delicious.
The GBCCA DECA Announces This Year's 68 Student Membership
The GBCCA DECA Chapter is proud to announce this year’s 68 student membership, led by their 2025-26 Officers and Advisors. 45 have chosen to #GoTheExtra by competing this year! Competitors have already begun to study and prepare for their District competition against thousands of other DECA students in December. State and International competitions will follow for those who advance.

Thirty-seven Business Professionals of America (BPA) members, representing the Dr. Gene Burton College and Career Academy (GBCCA), competed among more than 700 students from 15 BPA chapters in the 2026 Texas Regional Leadership Conference (RLC), Region 3-1, held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Mesquite Vanguard High School.

GBCCA CCMA students have officially completed hospital orientation at Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall and Baylor Lake Pointe in Rowlett, where they toured each facility and heard a guest presentation that introduced entry-level concepts in LEAN management and process improvement.
